I was raised in a family where if something was broken we needed to fix it! If the house needed a new roof we were replacing it. From new windows to sun porches and sheds, my sister and I helped with everything. My dad is very handy and he wanted to make sure that my sister and I were very skilled and independent. We learned how to use every tool he had. I never truly understood how grateful I would be to have these skills until I was in college. It was pretty cool when the guys I knew in college called to barrow my tools to put the pool table together!
I have my Masters in Education from Wheelock College in Boston. I taught in Boston for a few years before moving back home. I took a few years off to be home with my children. I started painting when the kids were sleeping. I could always get a room done at nap-time.
When I went back to work I continued to paint on weekends. My first customers were friends. There were many instances where friends would leave for the weekend and come back to a freshly painted house. I loved the phone calls to say how happy they were.
I have worked on older homes, new construction and everything in between. I love working with my clients to find out exactly what they want.
My current house that I live in with my daughter (14) and son (12) has been a work in progress for several years. Like my father I am passing the torch onto my daughter. I gave her a sledge hammer and had her knock down the soffit in the kitchen. She loved it. My son who is Autistic doesn’t always love it when we put holes in the walls but he is getting used to it. He does like to pick colors though.
I love meeting new people and painting new houses. The instant gratification of the paint on the walls makes me want to paint more.
Every project that I take on is a Labor of Love. It gives me so much joy knowing that the skills that I learned as a child helps to bring joy to my clients.
